AAP Accuses SAD of Cover-Up in 2015 Sacrilege Cases

Chandigarh :

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today intensified its attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), accusing the former Akali-led government of attempting to suppress investigations into the 2015 sacrilege cases, destroy crucial evidence and shield police officials allegedly involved.
Addressing a press conference, AAP senior spokesperson Baltej Pannu alleged that the Shiromani Akali Dal repeatedly misled the people of Punjab and exploited public sentiment for political benefit.
Referring to the sacrilege incidents that occurred during the SAD-BJP government’s tenure in 2015, Pannu claimed that instead of ensuring justice, the then government tried to cover up the cases and deliberately erased key evidence. He further alleged that police officers accused in connection with the incidents were protected rather than being held accountable.
Targeting Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, Pannu said the recent summons issued to him by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had exposed the alleged shortcomings of the previous government in handling the sacrilege cases.
He asserted that the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government is committed to ensuring justice and that no guilty person would be spared.
The Shiromani Akali Dal had not issued an immediate response to the allegations at the time of reporting. The claims made by the AAP remain one-sided and await the Akali Dal’s reply.
