Punjab Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur today announced that the state government has released ₹14.12 crore under the Ashirwad Scheme during the financial year 2026-27, benefiting 2,769 eligible beneficiaries from the Backward Classes (BC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
Dr. Baljit Kaur said the financial assistance will help eligible families mt the marriage expenses of their daughters with dignity. She said the beneficiaries were selected through the Ashirwad Portal, with applications received from 19 districts across Punjab.
Under the scheme, eligible families receive ₹51,000 as financial assistance for the marriage of their daughters. The minister said the amount is transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to ensure transparency and timely delivery.
She added that applicants must be permanent residents of Punjab, belong to BPL families, and fall under the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes or Economically Weaker Sections, with an annual family income not exceeding ₹32,790. A maximum of two daughters from an eligible family can avail the benefit.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to social welfare, Dr. Baljit Kaur said the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government is ensuring that welfare schemes reach every deserving family in a transparent and time-bound manner while promoting social justice and inclusive development.
