New Delhi:
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday criticised Delhi University (DU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for advising students to stay away from protests at Jantar Mantar, calling the move an attack on democratic rights.
Both universities had urged students to avoid demonstrations, citing safety concerns, legal implications and Supreme Court guidelines. Gandhi accused the institutions of threatening students for exercising their democratic rights.
The advisories have also drawn criticism from several public figures and opposition leaders, while the universities have maintained that the notices were issued in the interest of student safety.
