Chandigarh:
On the occasion of World Lung Cancer Day, the Punjab Government reiterated its commitment to providing affordable cancer treatment and strengthening prevention efforts across the state.
Under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY), around 708 lung cancer patients have received cashless treatment, with claims worth ₹3.43 crore, according to the State Health Agency (SHA), Punjab.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said lung cancer is one of the most serious forms of cancer, but early diagnosis and timely treatment can significantly improve outcomes. He added that no patient should be denied treatment due to financial difficulties.
The minister urged people to stay away from tobacco, adopt a healthy lifestyle and remain alert to warning signs such as persistent cough, chest pain, unexplained weight loss and breathing difficulties. He said the government will continue to expand cancer screening and healthcare support under MMSY.
