Mounting garbage heaps and deteriorating sanitary conditions at the RMC Point near Phase-11 have become a major concern for local residents, prompting BJP leader Abha Bansal to demand immediate action from the authorities.
Bansal visited the site to assess the situation firsthand and interacted with residents affected by the growing waste problem. She said the continuous accumulation of garbage and stagnant wastewater has created unhygienic conditions, raising fears of disease outbreaks in the area.
According to residents, garbage that was earlier confined to a designated dumping area is now spreading to adjoining locations. They also highlighted the presence of stagnant water, foul smell, muddy roads, and poor accessibility, which have made daily commuting difficult and increased the risk of accidents.
Expressing concern over the situation, Bansal said it was unfortunate that such conditions persist despite repeated assurances regarding better waste management. She alleged that garbage from different parts of Mohali is being dumped at the site, causing inconvenience and health hazards for nearby residents.
The BJP leader urged the Mohali Municipal Corporation and the local MLA to immediately clear the accumulated waste and ensure proper drainage of stagnant water. She emphasized that public health and cleanliness should remain top priorities for the civic administration.
Warning of further action, Bansal said that if prompt steps are not taken to resolve the issue, she, along with local residents, will stage a protest at the RMC Point. She added that any outbreak of diseases due to the prevailing conditions would be the responsibility of the government and the Municipal Corporation.
Residents have also demanded a permanent solution to the waste disposal problem, saying the issue has been affecting their quality of life for a long time.
