Following the conclusion of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session, BJP National Executive Member Amanjot Kaur Ramuwalia on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Punjab Government, questioning its handling of key public and employee-related issues.
Ramuwalia said that the passage of nine bills in the Assembly cannot be considered the sole measure of the government’s performance. She asserted that the government must also explain what steps it has taken to address the long-pending concerns raised by the people of Punjab, government employees, and various sections of society.
She pointed out that while the Assembly session was underway, teachers, sanitation workers, and other government employees were staging protests and demonstrations to press for their demands. According to her, issues such as pending Dearness Allowance (DA) dues and other employee-related grievances remain unresolved.
The BJP leader further noted that the situation had become so serious that employees of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha itself were compelled to hold a protest outside the Assembly premises. She questioned why the staff of the very institution meant to discuss and resolve public issues had to come out on the streets to seek redressal of their own demands.
Ramuwalia also expressed concern over the financial burden and mounting debts of the power sector and other government institutions. She said the deteriorating financial condition of Punjab’s universities was another matter of serious concern. If higher educational institutions are facing a financial crisis, the government should present a clear roadmap to address the situation, she added.
Questioning the government’s claims of progress, she said that while the state government continues to talk about development, teachers, sanitation workers, government employees, and educational institutions are still struggling for their rights and financial support.
Passing bills in the Assembly is important, but listening to the voices of the people standing outside the Assembly is even more important,” Ramuwalia said, urging the government to focus on resolving the real issues affecting Punjab and its citizens.
