Mohali:
Councillor Kuldeep Kaur Dhanoa of Ward No. 13 has submitted a memorandum to the Mayor in the Municipal Corporation House, urging the authorities to permanently allot a sports ground to the District Athletic Association, which has been promoting athletics among children and youth in Mohali and surrounding areas for nearly 35 years.
Dhanoa said the association, under the guidance of coach Swaran Singh and his team, has been providing regular athletics training to hundreds of children and sports enthusiasts despite limited facilities. Several athletes trained by the association have brought recognition to Mohali and Punjab through achievements at international, Asian and national-level competitions.
She pointed out that despite its long-standing contribution to athletics, the association does not have a permanent sports ground. Its members have been preparing available sites at their own expense and conducting training sessions there.
Dhanoa said providing a permanent and well-equipped ground would help the association produce more athletes capable of achieving success at higher levels. She specifically urged the Mohali administration and concerned authorities to permanently allot the synthetic track ground in Sector 78 to the District Athletic Association.
She said such a move would strengthen athletics in Mohali, encourage youngsters to take up sports and help produce more athletes capable of representing Punjab and the country at international competitions.
“Give Mohali’s youth a sports ground so that they can win medals for the country,” Dhanoa said.
