Voter Registration and Awareness Camp Held at Government College

Mohali:

voter registration and awareness camp was organised at the Student Centre of SMHS Government College, Mohali, on August 24, 2026, under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative in view of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
The camp was organised by the college’s SVEEP Committee under the guidance of Principal Jaspreet Kaur Bains, with Prof. Simarpreet Kaur, Head of the Physical Education Department and SVEEP Nodal Officer, coordinating the programme.
The main objective was to encourage eligible students, particularly those who have attained the age of 18, to register as voters and understand the importance of exercising their voting rights. Students were also sensitised about the role of young voters in strengthening democracy.
Dr Sunny Ahluwalia, the chief guest, addressed the students and highlighted the importance of elections in a democratic country. Through personal experiences and practical examples, he encouraged students to actively participate in the electoral process and use their voting rights responsibly.
Principal Jaspreet Kaur Bains, in her concluding address, urged students to become responsible and aware citizens. She stressed that active participation in the electoral process is an important responsibility of every eligible citizen.
Members of the SVEEP Committee, including Prof. Sarabjit Kaur, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh, Prof. Navneet Kaur, Prof. Gayatri, Prof. Davinder Kumar, Prof. Prabhleen Jassal and Prof. Shabina, also played an active role in organising the camp.
The programme served as an important initiative to enhance electoral awareness among youth and encourage their meaningful participation in the democratic process.
