Old Silver Coins Reportedly Found During Excavation

Mohali:

Excitement spread in the historic village of Gharuan after a pot reportedly containing old silver-coloured coins was discovered during excavation work at the site of the old panchayat building.
The excavation is being carried out for the foundation of a modern library. Workers reportedly found a partially damaged earthen pot buried in the soil, inside which a large number of old coins were allegedly discovered.
Initial reports suggested that some of the coins bear Urdu inscriptions, raising speculation about their historical origin. However, their exact age, dynasty and significance have not yet been established and will require examination by experts.
Ward councillor Sher Singh said that after news of the discovery spread, a large number of residents gathered at the site, with some people using torches and mobile phone flashlights to search for additional coins.
According to the councillor, some individuals allegedly took coins away from the spot. Police were informed and reached the site, after which the area was cleared and the excavation was brought under control to prevent unauthorised digging or removal of objects.
The exact number of coins recovered and their historical or monetary value remains unknown. Authorities and experts are expected to examine the alleged discovery to determine its authenticity and significance.
The reports regarding the discovery and alleged removal of coins could not be independently verified.
