MP Malvinder Singh Kang Reviews ‘War Against Drugs’ Campaign

Mohali :

Sri Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang today chaired a district-level review meeting at the District Administrative Complex to assess the progress of Punjab Government’s ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign.
Kang directed all concerned departments to strengthen coordinated action against drug abuse through enforcement, treatment, rehabilitation and community participation. He asked officials associated with Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Ward Defence Committees (WDCs) to act promptly on inputs and references provided by committee members to tackle the drug problem at the grassroots level.
He directed the Police Department to intensify action against drug traffickers and peddlers, while asking the Health Department to ensure adequate OPD and IPD treatment facilities for people seeking de-addiction services.
Emphasising rehabilitation after treatment, Kang asked the district administration to explore employment opportunities for youth who have overcome drug addiction or are undergoing rehabilitation, helping them reintegrate into society and lead productive lives.
Kang also appreciated the services being provided by the 100-bed Government Drug De-addiction Centre in Sector 66, SAS Nagar. The centre is currently operating at full capacity and providing de-addiction and rehabilitation services to people affected by substance abuse.
He also directed officials to explore the expansion of de-addiction services in Dera Bassi to improve access to treatment facilities.
