Residents Oppose Proposed Labour Colony Near Phase 8 Nature Park

Mohali :

Ward No. 13 Councillor Kuldeep Kaur Dhanoa and local residents have lodged a strong objection to the proposed construction of a labour colony by a GMADA contractor adjacent to the Nature Park in Phase 8, Mohali.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Administrator of GMADA, the residents said the Nature Park is one of the city’s prominent green spaces, visited daily by thousands of people for morning and evening walks. They alleged that hundreds of saplings and trees had already been uprooted from the proposed site in the name of cleaning, causing serious concern among residents.
The residents said setting up a labour colony beside the park could negatively affect its peaceful and clean environment, leading to increased crowding, traffic, garbage and other disturbances for regular visitors.
They urged GMADA not to permit any labour colony or related settlement next to the Nature Park and requested that the contractor make labour arrangements within the land already allotted for the project instead of creating inconvenience for nearby residents.
The representation also highlighted that a polluted drain already exists on one side of the park, for which residents have been seeking improvement. They appealed to GMADA to inspect the site and consider public concerns before taking any decision, urging the authority to immediately withdraw the proposed labour colony plan in the interest of residents and the protection of the Nature Park.
