Industrialists in Mohali have expressed strong resentment over prolonged unscheduled power cuts, alleging that unreliable electricity supply is severely affecting industrial operations and causing financial losses.
Mohali Industries Association (MIA) President Ashok Gupta, General Secretary Rakesh Vig and former President H.S. Billa raised the issue during a press conference. They said that unscheduled power cuts have continued for nearly 25 days, particularly during night hours, without any prior notice to industries.
According to the MIA, around 600 micro, small, medium and large industries are operating in Mohali district. Frequent power disruptions lasting nearly 8 to 10 hours a day have reportedly reduced industrial production by around 50 per cent, affecting order deliveries and creating problems for machinery and workers.
The industrialists questioned the government’s efforts to attract new investment to Punjab, saying that existing industries are struggling to receive uninterrupted power supply. They warned that continued disruptions could push investors and businesses towards neighbouring states offering better infrastructure and incentives.
The MIA task force has given PSPCL a seven-day ultimatum to improve the power supply and stop unscheduled cuts. The industrialists warned that if the situation is not resolved, they may be forced to consider shutting down their units or shifting their businesses to other states.
