In a special drive against vehicle thefts, Mohali Police have arrested a suspected habitual motorcycle thief and recovered five stolen two-wheelers, including two motorcycles and two Activas, during the investigation.
The operation was conducted under the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, SAS Nagar, and under the supervision of Dilpreet Singh, IPS, SP (City), SAS Nagar. Gurcharan Singh, DSP City-1, had directed police teams to intensify checking of suspicious persons and vehicles.
The Phase-1 police team received specific information on September 6 that Gurjit Singh alias Tota, a resident of Kharar, was allegedly involved in motorcycle thefts and was standing near the new water tank in Phase-1, Mohali, with a stolen Splendor Plus motorcycle bearing registration number PB-65A-2230, allegedly intending to sell it.
Acting swiftly on the information, the police arrested the accused and recovered the stolen motorcycle from his possession. A case was registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Phase-1 Police Station.
During interrogation, Section 317(2) of the BNS was subsequently added to the case. The accused was produced before a court, which granted one-day police remand.
During the remand, police recovered two more stolen motorcycles and two Activa scooters on the accused’s identification. Further investigation into the case is underway.
