Bank Employees Stage Strong Protest in Sector 17, Chandigarh, Demand Five-Day Banking Week

Chandigarh :

Bank employees and officers staged a protest at Bank Square in Sector 17, Chandigarh, on Friday as part of the nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The protesters raised slogans over their pending demands and urged the Central Government to resolve the issues at the earliest.

The key demands of the protesters include implementation of a five-day banking week, resolution of pending salary and pension-related issues, and demands concerning the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. Bank unions said discussions on the five-day banking system have been underway for a long time, but no concrete decision has been taken so far.

The strike affected normal banking operations, with cash transactions, cheque-related work, passbook updates and other branch-based services likely to be impacted. Digital banking, UPI and ATM services were expected to remain available as usual.

Bank employees warned that if their demands are not addressed positively at the earliest, the unions may intensify their agitation.
