Adopt Healthy Habits to Protect Heart Health: Dr. Sangeeta Jain

Mohali :

On the occasion of World Heart Day, special awareness activities were organised today at various government health institutions across Mohali district to educate people about heart diseases. This year, the theme of World Heart Day is “Don’t Miss a Beat”, highlighting the importance of taking care of heart health, recognising symptoms and seeking timely medical advice.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain said that patients and members of the public were informed about the causes, symptoms, prevention and healthy lifestyle practices related to heart diseases at government health institutions.

She explained that high blood pressure, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, obesity, smoking, lack of physical activity and unhealthy eating habits can increase the risk of heart diseases.

Dr. Jain emphasised that people should adopt healthy habits in their daily lives to maintain good heart health. She said that symptoms such as chest pain or discomfort, difficulty in breathing, unusual fatigue, dizziness, excessive sweating, or pain spreading to the arm, shoulder, back, neck or jaw should not be ignored. People experiencing such symptoms should seek immediate medical assistance.

She also urged people to undergo regular checks of blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels, follow a balanced diet, exercise regularly, stay away from tobacco and avoid or limit alcohol consumption.

On the occasion, doctors, paramedical staff and students of nursing colleges at various government health institutions participated in awareness activities, educating people about heart health and encouraging them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
