Chandigarh :
Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon has questioned the reported circulation of a political protest poster on the official WhatsApp channel of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), alleging that a government communication platform may have been used for political purposes.
In a statement, Dhillon said a poster promoting a protest in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was reportedly shared on the channel on Saturday. The poster also featured a photograph of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Deepke.
Dhillon claimed that the PSEB WhatsApp channel has approximately 4.48 lakh followers and questioned how political content could appear on a platform intended to provide information to students, teachers and parents.
He sought clarification from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state Education Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor, asking who had authorised the sharing of the poster and what verification mechanisms were in place for content circulated through official government channels.
Dhillon Questions Relevance of Political Protest to Education Department
According to Dhillon, the poster listed four demands: restoring electoral rolls from January 2025 and halting upcoming elections; repealing the 2023 law governing the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and introducing a new law; seeking the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar; and stopping the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process while constituting an inquiry committee.
Questioning the relevance of these demands to school education, Dhillon asked why material related to a political protest against the Election Commission was reportedly shared through an education department platform.
He demanded an impartial inquiry to determine how the poster reached the PSEB WhatsApp channel and whether appropriate checks were followed before the content was circulated.
BJP Leader Seeks Accountability
Dhillon said the official WhatsApp channel should primarily be used to disseminate departmental circulars, holiday notifications, and information related to admissions and examinations.
He urged the Punjab government to take cognisance of the matter, fix responsibility if any lapse was established, and introduce clear guidelines to prevent the alleged misuse of official communication platforms.
The allegations were made by the Punjab BJP president. A response from the Punjab government or the School Education Department was not included in the statement, and the reported circulation of the poster could not be independently verified from the information provided.
