Light Diyas, Not Firecrackers; Spread Happiness, Not Smoke and Noise”: Councillor Kuldeep Kaur Dhanoa

Mohali :

Ahead of the festival of Diwali, Kuldeep Kaur Dhanoa, Councillor of Ward No. 13, visited Government Primary School Lambian and sensitised students about the harmful effects of firecrackers. The children were encouraged to stay away from firecrackers and celebrate an eco-friendly, green and clean Diwali.

During the awareness programme, students were informed that smoke and noise generated by firecrackers contribute to air and noise pollution. These can cause breathing difficulties and other health problems, particularly for elderly people, patients and young children. The loud sounds of firecrackers also frighten birds and animals, causing them distress.

The children were urged not to burst firecrackers and to encourage their family members and friends to celebrate Diwali responsibly. They were advised to light traditional diyas, share happiness, maintain cleanliness and protect the environment from pollution.

On the occasion, Satvir Singh Dhanoa, President of the Punjabi Virsa Cultural Society, said that children could help spread the message of environmental protection to every household. He emphasised the importance of educating children about their social responsibilities from an early age.

The school head and the entire staff were present during the programme. It is noteworthy that the school staff regularly sensitises students about social responsibilities alongside academic learning and discipline, helping them develop into responsible citizens.
