A concerning trend appears to be emerging on the roads of Mohali, where some vehicle owners are allegedly concealing their registration number plates to avoid traffic challans issued through CCTV cameras and automated surveillance systems.
A photograph captured by the Team The Aman Sandesh Times at the Phase 7 petrol pump shows a two-wheeler with its rear registration number plate covered with mud or dirt, making the vehicle number difficult to read and identify. Such incidents raise concerns about traffic discipline and the effective enforcement of road safety regulations.
The Mohali Administration has invested substantial public funds in installing modern CCTV cameras and automated traffic monitoring systems to identify traffic violations and issue challans. However, deliberate attempts to conceal vehicle registration numbers can undermine the effectiveness of these surveillance arrangements.
Under traffic regulations, deliberately obscuring or tampering with a vehicle’s registration number plate is a violation and can invite legal action.
