Mohali:
The functioning of Sanjh Kendras, established to provide essential government services to the public, has come under question in Mohali. Several Sanjh Kendras are reportedly lying closed with locks on their doors after employees posted there were assigned duties in Sangrur district, causing inconvenience to local residents.
Social activist Ramesh Kumar Verma said that he personally visited the Sanjh Kendras in Phase 8 and Phase 11 and found both centres closed. According to information gathered from people present at the locations, the employee posted at the Phase 8 centre had been assigned duty in Sangrur. Similarly, Ravinder, an employee at the Phase 11 Sanjh Kendra, reportedly informed him that he had been deployed outside Mohali for the past one week.
He further pointed out that the situation concerning Sanjh Kendras associated with Phase 8 Police Station, Phase 11 Police Station and Sohana Police Station (Sector 79) is also a matter of serious concern.
Raising questions over the administrative arrangements, Verma said that if employees posted at Mohali’s Sanjh Kendras are deployed in another district, who will provide essential government services to the residents of Mohali? He added that deploying staff in Sangrur, the home district of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, may be an administrative decision, but it should not come at the cost of basic public services in a major city like Mohali.
He highlighted that residents visit Sanjh Kendras for various certificates, essential documents, reports regarding lost documents and other government-related services. However, when these centres remain closed and no staff is available, ordinary citizens are forced to face unnecessary inconvenience and repeated visits.
Ramesh Kumar Verma urged the Punjab Government, DGP Punjab and senior Mohali Police officials to immediately ensure adequate and permanent staff arrangements at all Sanjh Kendras in Mohali. He said that if employees are assigned duties in Sangrur or any other district, alternative staff must be deployed in their place so that public services are not disrupted.
He also questioned whether the residents of Mohali are not entitled to the facilities provided through Sanjh Kendras. He stressed that citizens of Mohali deserve timely access to government services and that the authorities must take immediate corrective measures to resolve the issue.
