The Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Chandigarh Administration, carried out a series of activities under the ongoing POSHAN Abhiyaan campaign to enhance awareness about nutrition and promote active community participation in improving health outcomes.
At the Anganwadi Centre in Manimajra, a special awareness event titled “Poshan-Kuposhan ki Ladai” was held, focusing on the significance of proper nutrition during early childhood. The session highlighted the critical need to tackle malnutrition at its roots through informed parenting and care.
In AWC Kaimbwala, children underwent growth monitoring, and those who showed improvement from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) to a normal nutritional status were acknowledged and awarded in a prize distribution ceremony.
A “Godh Bharai” (traditional baby shower) event was organized at the Sector 30 Anganwadi Centre. The program addressed the importance of maternal nutrition, prenatal care, and healthy practices during pregnancy.
Several other awareness activities were conducted across Anganwadi Centres, including:
A lecture on AYUSH for holistic well-being
A discussion on the importance of food fortification
Home visits to spread awareness about complementary feeding for infants
Promotion of the “Poshan ke Panch Sutra” (Five Nutrition Principles)
Advocacy on the early inclusion of millets in children’s diets
These initiatives demonstrate the Chandigarh Administration’s commitment to combating malnutrition and improving maternal and child health through community-driven engagement and behavioral change.
