Police Rewarded for Vigilance After Failing to Recognize DCP in Civilian Dress During Surprise Check

Panchkula :

In a unique and commendable move, Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta honoured five police personnel for their unwavering commitment to duty—especially for not recognizing her during a surprise inspection while she was in civilian clothes.

The felicitation took place at the DCP office in Sector 1, where the officers were awarded commendation letters and cash prizes for their role in maintaining law and order and strictly enforcing the Drink and Drive campaign.

Special Police Officers (SPOs) Dharmveer and Surjeet Singh were lauded for their critical role in intercepting a Bolero vehicle carrying illegal liquor. Home Guards Praveen Kumar, Kishan Singh, and Mohit Kumar were also recognized for their alertness and professionalism at traffic checkpoints.

An unexpected highlight of the day occurred when DCP Gupta, dressed casually and driving a private vehicle, arrived at a checkpoint as part of an unannounced inspection. The officers on duty, unaware of her identity, proceeded with standard protocol — questioning her and requesting an alcohol test via alcosensor. Impressed by their discipline and impartial conduct, the DCP awarded them on the spot for their integrity.

Addressing the ceremony, DCP Gupta stressed the importance of boosting morale within the police force. “Discipline, sincerity, and vigilance are the core values we encourage in our personnel. Recognizing such qualities inspires the entire team,” she said.

She also emphasized that proactive policing and on-ground alertness are essential to public safety and effective law enforcement, and such recognitions play a key role in motivating officers across all ranks.
