Pb BJP Chief Seeks Court-Supervised Probe into MLAs’ Assets, Drug Money

Chandigarh :

Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has called on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to initiate a high-level investigation into the assets of state MLAs, highlighting a sharp rise in wealth among legislators, including luxury cars and sprawling farmhouses, which he alleges may be linked to drug money and illegal mining.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Jakhar requested the probe be conducted under the supervision of Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu to ensure impartiality. He urged the involvement of agencies like the Enforcement Directorate or any other authority deemed suitable to scrutinize the sudden increase in wealth among ministers, MLAs, party leaders, and office bearers, stating that merely filing income-tax returns does not justify the surge.
Jakhar offered himself as an example, expressing willingness to undergo the probe to demonstrate transparency. He emphasised that only a credible, court-monitored investigation could restore public confidence and show the government’s commitment to tackling the deep-rooted illegal economy in Punjab.
