With the objective of promoting mushroom cultivation in the district, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), SAS Nagar, organised a vocational training programme under the leadership of Deputy Director Dr. Balbir Singh Khadda. The programme witnessed the participation of 25 farmers, women and youth.
On the occasion, Dr. Balbir Singh Khadda highlighted the importance and potential of mushroom cultivation as an income-generating activity. Programme In-charge Dr. Harmeet Kaur and Dr. Parul Gupta provided detailed information to the trainees about different types of mushrooms cultivated in Punjab, their quality, and value-added products.
Dr. Avneet Kaur from the Farm Advisory Service Centre, Rupnagar, explained the process of compost preparation for button mushroom cultivation. Mushroom grower Mrs. Sukhjeevan Kaur shared her practical experiences regarding the cultivation of shiitake and medicinal mushrooms. Dr. Harjot Singh Sohi from KVK Barnala delivered an in-depth session on the economics and marketing of mushroom production.
Food Safety Officer Mohali, Ms. Rajdeep Kaur, briefed the participants about the Food Safety and Standards Act, relevant regulations, and the application process required for mushroom-based businesses.
As part of the practical training, participants were taken on an exposure visit to Mushroom Master Agrotech at Dhadak Kalan, where Mr. Vikas Benal provided comprehensive information on button mushroom cultivation, from compost preparation to harvesting.
At the conclusion of the programme, the trainees expressed their gratitude to the KVK team for organising the training and for enhancing their knowledge and skills in mushroom cultivation.
