The Gatka Association of District SAS Nagar will host the 2nd District Gatka Tournament 2025 on Thursday, December 25, near Gurdwara Nanak Darbar, Sector-91, SAS Nagar. The event is organized under the aegis of the Gatka Association of Punjab, affiliated with the National Gatka Association of India.
Phool Raj Singh, Chairman of the Directorate of International Affairs of the World Gatka Federation, said that around ten Gatka teams from across the district will participate, showcasing traditional Sikh martial arts demonstrations as well as competitive displays. The tournament aims to provide a competitive platform for emerging players and strengthen Gatka’s grassroots structure at the district level.
He added that the competition is part of a broader effort to promote Gatka not only as a cultural heritage but also as a structured and regulated sport aligned with national standards.
Harsimran Singh and Sherry Singh, Coordinators of the Gatka Association of Punjab, emphasized that district-level tournaments play a crucial role in identifying talent, encouraging youth participation, and preparing players for higher-level competitions at the state and national stages. The event is also expected to attract spectators from nearby areas, further increasing Gatka’s visibility in urban Punjab.
