MP Kang Criticizes MGNREGA Renaming, Urges Stronger Implementation

Mohali :

MP Malvinder Singh Kang criticized the BJP-led central government’s decision to rename MGNREGA, stating it undermines the scheme’s core purpose. Speaking at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in SAS Nagar, he urged that the scheme’s framework be strengthened to ensure maximum benefits and reduce the financial burden on states.
Kang emphasized timely, transparent, and people-centric use of MPLAD funds and reviewed key development projects, including health, rural development, drinking water, waste management, PM Awas Yojana, Gram Sadak Yojana, and crop residue management initiatives.
He inquired about the Kajouli water supply project in Kharar and monsoon-ready bridges in Jayanti Ki Rao, directing officials to expedite works in new villages. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal assured all projects would be completed on schedule, with monitoring systems ensuring quality and standards.
Senior officials including ADC Urban Development Anmol Singh Dhillon, ADC Rural Development Sonam Chaudhary, and SDM Mohali Damandeep Kaur attended the meeting, which highlighted the MP’s focus on strengthening central schemes and accountable development.
