The Punjab Excise Department has issued a stern warning against the sale of liquor sourced from outside the state, stressing that any tampering with state revenue will not be tolerated. Assistant Commissioner Excise, Ropar Range, Ashok Chalhotra, said strict action will be taken against individuals and establishments involved in illegal sales.
During a recent raid at Food Wave-43 in Kharar, liquor labelled for Chandigarh was recovered. Preliminary investigations indicate the stock was not authorised for sale in Punjab and may have been served illegally. Authorities are probing the source of the liquor and potential wider supply networks in the district.
Chalhotra cautioned hotel, restaurant, and bar operators to purchase liquor only from authorised sources, warning that violators could face legal action and licence cancellation. The department’s drive against illegal liquor will continue in the coming weeks.
