Mohali : Two young women and a young man were allegedly harassed and assaulted late Friday night in Phase 3B2, Mohali, a prominent residential area of the city. The incident has raised concerns about safety after the victims claimed that two youths in a car chased and tried to ram their scooter.
According to the complaint filed with the Phase 1 Police Station, Mohali, the accused first passed lewd remarks at the trio while driving alongside them. When the victims tried to move away, the youths allegedly began chasing their scooter and attempted to hit them with the car.
During the incident, the car reportedly struck the scooter once, creating panic among the victims. The complainants also alleged that one of the accused snatched a shoe from the foot of one of the young women before fleeing the scene. Following the complaint, police registered the case and began an investigation. Investigating officer ASI Balwinder Singh said the car involved in the incident was traced through its registration number.
According to the officer, the vehicle was found to be registered in the name of the uncle of one of the accused.
The driver has been identified as Kamaljit Singh, a resident of Kambali village.
Police officials said the accused have been absconding since the incident and their mobile phones are currently switched off. The identity of the second youth involved in the incident has not yet been established.
Authorities said efforts are underway to trace the suspects and further legal action will be taken once they are apprehended. The police have also appealed to the public to share any information that could help in locating the accused.
