MC Expansion Prompts Call for New Staff in Budget

Mohali : Following the significant expansion of the Mohali Municipal Corporation area, Deputy Mayor Kuljeet Singh Bedi has urged the Municipal Corporation to sanction new posts in the upcoming budget to ensure smooth administration and development of the newly included areas.
In a letter to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Bedi highlighted that around 15 new villages, including Aero City, have been added to the corporation’s jurisdiction. He emphasized that adequate staffing is essential to manage and develop these areas efficiently. Without timely approval of new positions, recruiting the necessary personnel could become difficult, potentially affecting public services and infrastructure projects.
The Deputy Mayor specifically called for an increase in technical staff for the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) and Civil departments, including key roles such as S.E., XEN, S.D.O., and J.E. He noted that a shortage of staff would not only slow development in the newly added villages but could also hinder ongoing projects in the older city areas.
Bedi requested that the Municipal Corporation House approve budget provisions to create the required posts in advance, preventing a situation of “running ahead but lagging behind” in development. He stressed that proper planning and staffing are crucial for the smooth functioning of the expanded municipal area and for providing residents with timely services. The Deputy Mayor’s move underscores the importance of proactive administrative planning, especially after rapid urban expansion. Ensuring sufficient staff in technical and operational roles will help maintain infrastructure, manage public utilities, and oversee civic services effectively.
With the municipal area now encompassing more villages and urban zones, officials must coordinate closely to balance the needs of older city sectors with the development demands of the new regions. Early allocation of resources and staffing will be critical in avoiding service disruptions and ensuring equitable growth across the entire municipal jurisdiction.
By urging the inclusion of these posts in the upcoming budget, Bedi aims to strengthen governance capacity, streamline municipal operations, and ensure residents of both old and newly added areas receive consistent and efficient civic services.
