Chandigarh : A controversy erupted during a religious event in Rajasthan’s Alwar after noted bhajan singer Kanhaiya Mittal got into a heated argument with a sound system operator, leading to an abrupt disruption of his performance.
According to reports, the disagreement escalated during the live event, prompting Mittal to drop the microphone mid-performance and step down among the devotees without completing his set. The situation further intensified when the event organizers reportedly sided with the sound system operator instead of addressing the singer’s concerns, leaving Mittal visibly upset.
Following the incident, Mittal went live on social media while returning from Alwar, where he openly expressed his disappointment and frustration over the treatment he received. He stated that such incidents are not uncommon in the industry and highlighted that harassment is faced not only by small or emerging artists but also by established performers like himself. Mittal also raised the issue of non-payment by event organizers, revealing that he has, on multiple occasions, not received his due remuneration despite fulfilling his commitments. He emphasized the importance of securing proper agreements and ensuring payment before stepping onto the stage. “Artists should not perform without confirming their compensation,” he said, urging performers to value their work and avoid exploitation. The incident has sparked discussion within the artist community about professionalism, accountability, and fair treatment in event management. Many have echoed concerns about the lack of structured systems to protect performers’ rights, especially in informal event setups. While no official statement has been issued by the organizers, the episode has once again brought attention to the challenges faced by artists in ensuring fair compensation and respectful working conditions in the entertainment and devotional event industry.
