INLD Meets Pb Governor Over Wheat Procurement Issues

Mohali : A delegation led by Abhay Singh Chautala, National President of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), met the Governor at Lok Awas on today, submitting a memorandum highlighting issues faced by farmers regarding wheat procurement.
Addressing the media, Chautala criticized the state government for imposing new conditions on wheat procurement, including mandatory tractor-trolley registration numbers, gate passes at mandis, biometric verification, and nomination requirements. He questioned the necessity of these measures, stating that such conditions were never imposed earlier and are creating hardships for farmers.
He also raised concerns about restricted gate pass timings from 6 am to 8 pm, arguing that farmers often harvest and transport wheat during night hours due to fire risks during the day. Chautala pointed out that farmers using traditional means like bullock carts, camel carts, and horse-drawn carts would face additional difficulties in complying with these requirements.
Referring to assurances given by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on March 12 regarding uninterrupted procurement and renewal of licenses, Chautala said no action has been taken so far. He added that the Governor has assured the delegation that their concerns would be discussed with the government. With wheat procurement set to begin on April 1, Chautala warned that the absence of proper arrangements at procurement centres could lead to serious challenges for farmers. He also criticized the Chief Minister, calling him a “dummy” and alleging failure to act on commitments.
The INLD leader announced a party meeting in Panipat on March 30 to formulate a strategy and revealed plans to set up Kisan Grievance Redressal Centres in mandis to assist farmers.
He warned of a major agitation if demands are not met, including provision of basic facilities such as tents, water, and electricity at procurement centres.
Chautala also questioned the government’s claims of adequate fuel supply, alleging long queues at gas agencies and empty petrol pumps in several districts.
