Mohali : The tenure of the Mohali Municipal Corporation’s elected body will end on April 11, after which the Municipal Commissioner will assume charge as Administrator, managing all civic affairs until fresh elections are held. Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu, Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, Senior Deputy Mayor Amarik Singh Somal, and all councillors will vacate their positions, concluding the five-year elected term. The transition marks the end of an elected civic administration, originally formed after the February 12, 2021 elections. Analysts suggest that in the absence of political leadership, administrative decision-making may become more streamlined, potentially accelerating pending development projects. The shift is also expected to alter local political dynamics, enhancing the influence of AAP MLA Kulwant Singh in the region.
Speculation surrounds the timing of upcoming municipal elections, with the Punjab Government possibly delaying polls in consideration of broader political strategies ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Administrative control is likely to focus on repairing roads, improving sewerage infrastructure, completing stalled projects, revamping parks, and fast-tracking pending tenders. While residents hope for better efficiency, the absence of elected representatives raises questions about accountability and public participation.
Mohali now enters a transitional phase where bureaucracy manages governance while political currents continue shaping the city’s future.
