Civic Neglect Sparks Outrage Over Hidden Signboards

Mohali :

A growing wave of concern has emerged among residents and commuters as a majority of signboards installed along sector and phase-dividing roads in the city have become nearly invisible due to tall, overgrown trees. The issue has raised serious questions over civic maintenance and administrative accountability.
Installed at a cost of lakhs of rupees, these signboards were meant to provide clear directions and essential information to the public. However, their purpose now stands defeated, as dense foliage has engulfed many of them, leaving commuters confused and inconvenienced.
Residents allege that despite repeated observations, neither the Municipal Corporation nor the concerned authorities have taken timely action to address the problem. The situation has been further aggravated by the completion of the term of elected councillors, who, according to locals, failed to provide any meaningful relief on this issue during their tenure.
Raising his voice against the apparent negligence, social worker Atul Sharma has warned that if corrective measures are not initiated in the coming days, he will be compelled to seek legal recourse. He emphasized that public funds must be utilized effectively and not wasted due to lack of maintenance.
In this regard, Atul Sharma, a resident of Phase 2, has also submitted a formal complaint to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, urging immediate trimming of trees and restoration of visibility of the signboards to ensure commuter safety and convenience.
The issue highlights a broader concern regarding urban upkeep and calls for urgent intervention to restore the intended functionality of public infrastructure. But Who Cares???
