Mohali :
Following a severe storm and strong winds that hit Mohali and nearby areas, several parts of the city remained without electricity for more than 30 hours, causing significant inconvenience to residents.
The prolonged power outage also disrupted water supply, as overhead tanks could not be filled. Elderly people, patients, and children were among the worst affected, while daily life came to a standstill. Business activities were also adversely impacted.
Reacting sharply to the situation, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Parvinder Singh Sohana criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the local administration. He pointed out that despite similar weather conditions, power supply in neighbouring cities like Chandigarh and Panchkula was restored much faster, indicating administrative failure in Mohali.
He further stated that during the Akali Dal’s tenure, such situations were handled more efficiently, with prompt action ensuring minimal disruption. According to him, the recent storm has exposed the inefficiency and weak management of the current AAP government.
Sohana demanded accountability from the government and called for stronger infrastructure improvements and a more responsive mechanism to prevent such situations in the future.
Meanwhile, officials from the electricity department stated that restoration work is underway on a war footing. Multiple teams have been deployed to repair damaged power lines and clear fallen trees. However, the extensive damage caused by the storm has slowed down restoration efforts.
Power supply is gradually being restored, but residents continue to demand better preparedness and quicker response to avoid such prolonged disruptions in the future.
