Suspended DIG Bhullar’s Bribery Case Deferred

Chandigarh:

The CBI Court in Chandigarh has adjourned the bribery case against suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and alleged middleman Krishanu Sharda till August 12 after two prosecution witnesses failed to appear for the hearing.
The court had summoned Shubham Angural and Prashant Kumar Gaurav after framing charges under Section 61(2) of the BNS along with Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. However, the prosecution sought an adjournment as Gaurav had been transferred from Chandigarh, while Angural sought exemption on medical grounds due to viral fever.
Bhullar appeared before the court along with his legal team, while the defence was allowed to briefly interact with him during the proceedings. The case is based on a complaint by businessman Akash Batta, who alleged that Bhullar, then DIG of Ropar Range, demanded illegal gratification through Sharda for favourable action in an FIR registered at Sirhind police station.
The CBI had laid a trap, following which Sharda was allegedly caught accepting ₹5 lakh from the complainant on October 16, 2025. Bhullar was arrested the same day, and charges were later framed against him on July 10, 2026.
