World Hepatitis Day Observed Across Government Health Institutions

Mohali :

World Hepatitis Day was observed across all government health institutions in Mohali district with a series of awareness programmes aimed at educating people about the causes, symptoms, prevention and treatment of hepatitis.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain said hepatitis is a serious liver disease caused by a virus and stressed that awareness, timely testing and preventive measures are key to controlling the disease. She advised people to ensure safe blood transfusions, avoid the reuse of syringes and needles, and make use of safe healthcare services to prevent Hepatitis B and C.
Highlighting the importance of immunisation, Dr. Jain said vaccination is the most effective protection against Hepatitis B. She urged people to undergo timely screening and seek medical advice immediately if they experience any symptoms. She also informed that hepatitis testing and treatment facilities are available at government health institutions across the district.
As part of the observance, health workers distributed awareness material among patients and the public and appealed for collective efforts to build a hepatitis-free society.
