The torch relay (Mashal March) for Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan Season-4, 2026 received a grand welcome upon reaching Balachaur in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district today.
The torch, which arrived from neighbouring Rupnagar district, was received by Balachaur MLA Santosh Kataria in the presence of SDM Sunil Phogat, District Sports Officer Vandna Chauhan and other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Santosh Kataria said the Punjab Government was making concerted efforts to connect youth with sports and channelise their energy towards healthy activities. She said sports can play an important role in keeping youngsters away from drugs and promoting a healthier lifestyle.Kataria highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure at the grassroots level, including the development of modern playgrounds in villages. She said providing better facilities in rural areas would help children from all backgrounds develop their sporting talent and compete at national and international levels.
She also stressed that sports are not limited to winning medals but help develop discipline, confidence, resilience, character and sportsmanship among youngsters.
Several national and international sportspersons, including international athlete Anamika, volleyball players Naveen, Manpreet Singh and Manjinder Singh, state-level athlete Anakshi and badminton coach Raman, participated in the rally and motivated local youth to take up sports.
After an overnight stay in SBS Nagar, the Mashal March will proceed towards Jalandhar on August 21, continuing its journey ahead of the upcoming season of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan.
