Chandigarh :
Dr Gurpreet Kaur, wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has issued a legal notice to retired Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Ranjit Singh over allegations that she demanded ₹5 crore to suppress a rape case.
According to the notice, Justice Ranjit Singh has been asked to apologise within 24 hours for allegedly making false and baseless allegations, failing which Dr Gurpreet Kaur has warned of legal action for defamation.
The controversy follows allegations made publicly by Justice (Retd.) Ranjit Singh. The allegations have not been established, and the matter is now also under scrutiny following the National Human Rights Commission’s direction for an inquiry.
Justice Ranjit Singh is also the brother-in-law of Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira.
