Derabassi :
MLA Kuljeet Singh Randhawa held a special meeting with procurement agencies, market committee officials, commission agents and sub-divisional administration officials to review arrangements for the upcoming paddy procurement season.
During the meeting, Randhawa directed officials to ensure advance arrangements for cleanliness, drinking water, lighting, tarpaulins and other essential facilities at all grain markets in the constituency. Procurement agencies and commission agents were asked to ensure timely procurement and lifting of paddy so that farmers do not face unnecessary delays.
Randhawa said the Punjab government had made adequate arrangements in grain markets for the convenience of farmers and assured that every effort would be made to ensure smooth procurement during the paddy season. He noted that paddy matures early in some areas around Banur and Rajpura due to vegetable cultivation, making timely preparations at the markets particularly important.
He said additional sheds had been arranged at the markets to protect farmers and their produce from adverse weather conditions. All departments involved in market management were directed to work in coordination to ensure farmers face no difficulty while selling their crops.
Randhawa also appealed to farmers to bring only properly dried paddy with the prescribed moisture level to the markets, which would help speed up procurement and avoid delays caused by drying requirements
Officials from PUNGRAIN, MARKFED, PUNSUP, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, Food and Civil Supplies Department, Market Committees of Derabassi and Lalru, along with commission agents, farmer wing representatives, District Food and Supplies Controller Varinder Kumar and SDM Derabassi Amit Gupta were present at the meeting.
