The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ reached Mohali today with two public meetings organised at Phase 11 and the Ramlila Ground in Phase 1 under the leadership of district BJP president Sanjeev Vashisht.
Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood attended the programme as the special guest and targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government over the issue of drugs in Punjab. He alleged that Arvind Kejriwal had come to Punjab after being rejected by the people of Delhi and made remarks about his lifestyle.
Sood said Punjab is the land of the Gurus and stressed the need for society to unite against drugs. He appealed to people to rise above political differences and work collectively to protect the state’s youth from drug abuse.After the Phase 11 programme, the yatra proceeded towards Phase 1 with large chariot-like vehicles. A large number of BJP workers and local residents participated in the programme, which the party described as a show of strength.
Sanjeev Vashisht said the participation of people in the campaign could develop into a major movement against drugs. He said the BJP would continue raising the issue across Punjab and claimed that stronger action was needed against the illegal drug trade.
BJP state president Kewal Singh Dhillon, state vice-president Dr Subhash Sharma, treasurer Sukhwinder Singh Goldy, general secretary Parminder Singh Brar, MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, Satwinder Satti and other senior leaders and party workers were also present.
