Chandigarh:
In a significant financial relief for retired government employees and their families, the Government of Punjab has enhanced the Dearness Relief (DR) payable to pensioners and family pensioners by 8 per cent.
As per the Finance Department’s order, the existing Dearness Relief rate has been increased from 42 per cent to 50 per cent, with effect from September 1, 2026. The enhanced Dearness Relief will be payable along with the pension and family pension for September 2026.
The decision has been issued by the Finance Department, Pension Policy and Coordination Branch, with the approval of the Governor of Punjab. The order has been circulated to concerned government departments, treasury authorities, Accountant General offices, banks and pensioners’ welfare associations for necessary action.
The enhancement will provide an additional financial cushion to Punjab Government pensioners and family pensioners, helping them cope with rising day-to-day expenses. The revised rate marks an increase of 8 percentage points over the existing rate.
The Finance Department has directed the concerned authorities to ensure implementation of the revised Dearness Relief as specified in the government order.
The announcement is expected to bring welcome relief and greater financial support to thousands of pensioners and family pensioners across Punjab.
