The three-day training programme for enumerators and supervisors for the smooth conduct of Phase-II (Population Enumeration) of Census 2027 is underway in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar. The training, being conducted from October 5 to 7, is being organised under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer Komal Mittal, IAS.
The training programme was inaugurated by the Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Charge Officers of the district. Addressing the participants, the officials stressed the need to perform census duties with honesty, accuracy and a strong sense of responsibility. They said proper coordination, collection of accurate information and strict adherence to prescribed procedures would be essential for the successful completion of the census.
As per the schedule announced by the Government of India, self-enumeration in Punjab will be conducted from November 16 to November 30, 2026. This will be followed by the population enumeration phase from December 1, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while the revision round will be conducted from January 5 to January 9, 2027.
Under the self-enumeration facility, citizens will be able to submit their census-related information online through the official self-enumeration portal before the door-to-door enumeration begins. After completing the online process, respondents will receive an 11-digit self-enumeration ID beginning with the English letter ‘P’ through SMS. Enumerators will verify this ID during their household visits, reducing the need to fill out the complete questionnaire again.
The training programme aims to familiarise enumerators and supervisors with the procedures of Phase-II of Census 2027, population enumeration and the Population Enumeration (PE) application. During the enumeration process, important information relating to individuals, including age, literacy and economic activity, will be collected.
Participants are also being trained on the 40 questions included in the census, the correct manner of asking them and the significance of the information being collected. Training is also being provided on the use of the mobile application, data entry procedures and resolving issues that may arise during field-level operations.
Officials said enumerators and supervisors would play a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of Census 2027. They urged all participants to take the training seriously, understand the prescribed procedures thoroughly and perform their responsibilities accurately and diligently.
