UT Employees’ Federation Demands Equal Pay for Outsourced Workers

Chandigarh :

The Federation of UT Employees and Workers has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and Labour Commissioner, demanding that outsourced workers in all Chandigarh departments be given the basic pay scale and Dearness Allowance (DA) as per their respective categories, instead of DC rates.
A delegation of the Federation also met the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in this regard, citing a 2001 Ministry of Home Affairs directive and arguing that the principle of “Equal Pay for Equal Work” has long been applicable in Chandigarh.
The Federation stated that several Supreme Court judgments, including landmark cases, support the demand for pay parity and regularisation of services. It also claimed that while such provisions are implemented in some institutions, they are not uniformly followed in Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation departments.
Union representatives termed the existing system “discriminatory” and demanded immediate implementation of court directions and a revised pay structure until a uniform policy is framed.
Federation leaders warned that if their demands are not met, they may launch a protest campaign across Chandigarh.
