Mohali :
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kulwant Singh inaugurated construction work on new chowks and T-junctions worth ₹17.71 crore near Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, Sohana, as part of the Punjab government’s drive to accelerate development while enhancing the city’s aesthetics.
The project was formally launched after an ardaas performed in the presence of the Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan management committee. The committee requested that the new chowk be named after Baba Ji, to which the MLA said sincere efforts would be made to dedicate the chowk in Baba Ji’s name.
Addressing the media, Kulwant Singh said five chowks are being developed in phases across Mohali, including near Sohana and in Sectors 69–70, 77–78, 68–69, 78–79, 79–80 (CP-67), and near the mall area. He added that key T-junctions—on Airport Road (IISR T-point, nearly 90 per cent complete), Cheema Chowk T-point, and Quark City junction—are also part of the project.
The works, costing ₹17.71 crore, have been awarded to Messrs Griftcon Infrastructure Company and are scheduled for completion by October 2026. The MLA said traffic management would be prioritised to ensure minimal inconvenience to the public during construction.
Kulwant Singh also announced that a women’s hostel will soon be built in Sector 66, with the foundation stone to be laid in the coming days.
Speaking on civic administration, he said development activities in Mohali would gain further momentum following the expansion of the municipal corporation, enabling elected representatives to address public needs more efficiently.
On the issue of removal of illegal encroachments, the MLA said the drive is being carried out strictly in accordance with High Court orders. He accused Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jiti Sidhu of undermining court directives and misleading the public, alleging that the Sidhu brothers had misled Mohali residents for the past 15 years and were now making baseless statements to cover up their failures.
Senior GMADA officials, including SE Parminder Singh, Executive Engineer (Civil) Sukhwinder Singh, and Chief Engineer Ajay Garg, were present at the event. Several councillors, former councillors, sarpanches, party leaders and local residents also attended the inauguration.
