New Delhi : Om Birla was reinstated as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha today following the defeat of the Opposition’s no-confidence motion against him in the House a day earlier. Addressing the House in his first remarks after returning to the chair, Birla emphasized that his conduct as Speaker has always been impartial.
He stated that he consistently strives to ensure that every Member of Parliament gets a fair opportunity to speak, in accordance with the rules and procedures of the House.
The no-confidence motion, which sought to challenge Birla’s neutrality, was tabled by opposition parties citing concerns over the handling of debates and proceedings. However, the motion failed to garner the required support, allowing Birla to continue in his role.Birla’s reinstatement has been welcomed by ruling party MPs, who praised his commitment to upholding parliamentary decorum and procedural fairness. The Speaker reiterated his dedication to maintaining the dignity of the House and facilitating smooth functioning of parliamentary business, assuring members that he would continue to act in an unbiased manner in all proceedings.
This development marks the continuation of Birla’s tenure as the presiding officer of the lower house of Parliament, reinforcing the importance of neutrality and fairness in managing legislative debates.
