Mohali :
The protest at the RMC Point in Phase 5 entered its second consecutive day today with residents continuing to raise concerns over waste management and safety issues in the area.
Former Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu joined the protestors and strongly criticised the government and administration, alleging negligence in handling the situation. He remarked that if “the gardener becomes dishonest, neither flowers bloom nor fruits grow,” referring to the current state of governance.
Sidhu said the protest, which began a day earlier, has seen participation from senior citizens, women, and youth. He claimed that despite assurances from authorities, garbage continues to be dumped at the site.
He also warned about the risk of fire hazards, stating that although visible flames may have reduced, the fire beneath the waste continues to smoulder and could reignite, especially during the summer season.
Highlighting additional risks, Sidhu pointed to nearby industrial setups and the presence of gas cylinders and chemicals, saying any mishap could lead to a major disaster. He urged authorities to take urgent and sustained corrective measures.
Protesters also expressed anger over the delay in resolving the issue, demanding immediate action and warning that they would continue their agitation until the problem is fully addressed.
