Sewage Water Raises Health Concerns Residents Protest

Mohali :

A serious public health issue has emerged in Mohali as residents report that untreated sewage water flowing from Chandigarh is entering the city and causing widespread environmental and health problems.
According to locals, the contaminated water enters near Phase 9 and passes through various sectors, including areas near schools and a gurdwara, before flowing through parts of the city. The polluted drain water is also reportedly passing through Leisure Valley, one of Mohali’s busiest parks where thousands of people visit daily for morning and evening walks.
Residents claim the situation has led to a rise in skin-related and other health issues, along with an increase in mosquitoes and harmful insects, making the area unhygienic and unsafe for daily activity.
Local resident Satveer Singh Dhanoa said the problem has severely affected daily life and called on senior officials including the Deputy Commissioner, GMADA chief administrator, and Municipal Corporation Commissioner to conduct an on-site inspection and implement a permanent solution without further delay.
He also highlighted that basic civic amenities such as cleanliness, drainage, and public health safety remain inadequate in the city, causing growing frustration among residents.
The situation has drawn strong reactions from the local community, who have urged the administration to immediately stop the inflow of contaminated water and initiate special sanitation and health measures in affected areas.
Residents have warned that if timely action is not taken, the issue could escalate into a major public health crisis affecting the entire city, for which they say the administration would be responsible.
