Girls Win Punjab Gatka Championship Fazilka Finish Runners-Up

The 12th Punjab State Gatka Championship (Girls) concluded at Gurukul Group of Institutes, Kotkapura, with Rupnagar emerging as the overall champions after a series of closely contested matches. Fazilka secured the runners-up position, while Gurdaspur and Fatehgarh Sahib shared third place.
The two-day event saw participation from over 250 girls representing 11 districts, highlighting the growing popularity of Gatka as a traditional Sikh martial art and competitive sport.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan presided over the closing ceremony and praised the discipline, fitness, and cultural values promoted through Gatka. He emphasized that the sport encourages moral strength and a healthy lifestyle among youth.
Several individual awards were also presented. Pavneet Kaur and Ishpreet Kaur of Rupnagar were among the top performers, while Japneet Kaur (Gurdaspur) was named Most Promising Player. Gursimran Kaur (Fazilka) received Best Junior Gatkabaz, and Sehaj Kaur (Fatehgarh Sahib) was honoured as Best Sub-Junior Star.
Officials from the National Gatka Association of India said efforts are underway to further promote Gatka at national and international levels. The event was described as a strong showcase of Punjab’s cultural heritage, discipline, and sporting talent.
