Mayor Seeks Centre’s Support to Develop City as Model Green Capital

Saurabh Joshi met Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi on Wednesday to seek the Centre’s support for transforming Chandigarh into a model green city under the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047 – Viksit Chandigarh 2047.”

During the meeting, the Mayor discussed several environmental and developmental priorities concerning Chandigarh, including environmental protection, scientific waste management reforms, strengthening green infrastructure, pollution control, ecological conservation, beautification projects, sustainable urban planning and future environment-focused initiatives.

Mayor Saurabh Joshi shared details of ongoing and proposed projects aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, cleaner surroundings, increased greenery, scientific waste disposal systems and long-term ecological balance across the city.

According to the Mayor, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav assured full cooperation and all possible support from the Government of India for Chandigarh’s environmental initiatives and developmental plans.

Joshi said Chandigarh, globally recognised as “The City Beautiful,” must continue setting benchmarks in environmental governance and sustainable urban development. He added that the city administration is committed to building a cleaner, greener, smarter and environmentally responsible Chandigarh for future generations.

“Environment First, Chandigarh First is not merely a slogan. It is our commitment towards future generations. Chandigarh shall continue moving towards becoming India’s benchmark green city,” the Mayor said.
