Jeeti Sidhu Targets Aap Over Drainage Failure

Mohali :

Former Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu today alleged that the city’s drainage system had collapsed during the season’s first rainfall, accusing the Municipal Corporation, the Mayor, the local MLA and the Punjab government of failing to prepare for the monsoon.
After visiting several waterlogged areas, including Sohana Gurdwara Sahib in Sector 77, Jubilee Walk Market and localities from Phase 4 to Phase 11, Sidhu claimed that poor drainage arrangements had left residents facing severe inconvenience after the first spell of rain.
He said the condition of roads and drainage infrastructure clearly showed that no adequate preparations had been made before the onset of the monsoon. According to him, the Municipal Corporation had failed to ensure timely cleaning of drains and sewer lines.
Sidhu stated that during his tenure as mayor, tenders for improving the drainage system had been approved in January. These included cleaning of roads, streets and drainage pipelines to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season. However, he alleged that the approved works were never executed.
The former mayor said he demitted office on April 11, after which responsibility shifted to the Municipal Corporation administration and the newly elected civic body. He alleged that neither officials nor the new leadership ensured implementation of the planned works, leaving residents to face avoidable hardships.
Claiming that the Punjab government, the Mohali MLA and the city’s Mayor all belong to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sidhu said the ruling party could not escape responsibility for the poor civic infrastructure.
He further maintained that the previous Municipal Corporation had already passed the required resolutions and floated tenders to strengthen the drainage network, but failure to execute the projects had resulted in widespread waterlogging across several parts of the city.
Demanding immediate corrective measures, Sidhu called for fixing accountability and expediting repairs to the drainage system to prevent similar problems during future spells of rain.
