PPCB Inspects Units Over Pollution Complaints

Derabassi :

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has continued its action following the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) intervention over complaints of alleged industrial pollution in Sundran village area.
On Tuesday morning, PPCB Mohali SDO, along with a departmental team and in the presence of the complainant, inspected Bindra Associates, Shiksha Enterprises and VK Hot Mix Plant to assess compliance with environmental norms.
The matter came to light after social activist Bhupinder Singh shared photographs and videos of alleged pollution on social media platform X and sought action from CPCB and PPCB. Following the complaint, CPCB directed PPCB to investigate the issue and submit an action report
During the initial inquiry, PPCB had initiated action against Bindra Associates and directed the unit to submit a bank guarantee of ₹2 lakh. The unit was also given 15 days to ensure compliance with environmental standards, failing which further action was warned. A report regarding alleged violations by Shiksha Enterprises was also prepared and sent to senior officials.
PPCB officials said that VK Hot Mix Plant was found closed during Tuesday’s inspection. They added that some previously inspected units have still not fully complied with the required environmental standards. A fresh inspection report will now be submitted to the PPCB headquarters for further action.
The department has warned that strict action will be taken against units failing to comply with pollution control norms. Meanwhile, the complainant said the objective was not to oppose any industry but to ensure adherence to environmental rules and protect public health.
